Beach Party

Israel’s beach birthday party was a very simple and relaxed event. The beach provided the entertainment and I just had to bring the gazebos, rugs and a variety of finger food and ice-cream. For his first birthday cake I layered two chocolate cakes together and iced with ombré buttercream icing using a petal style technique. I wanted it to look like waves lapping up to the sand. The sand was simply made from crushed vanilla wine biscuits, toasted coconut and a little bit of sugar. I was quite impressed at the texture and how close it looked to real sand. Although it was a little rushed, I was happy enough with the overall look of the cake. With more time I think I could do much better at the petal piping.
All of the children who attended got to take home a Fishy Favour, which was a simple fish shaped shortbread biscuit, themed to Israel’s beach invitation. Overall the whole party was a simple cost effective way for us to celebrate.
