Today my parents celebrate thirty four years of being married. Considering the amount of divorces and broken families out there, this is such an achievement. However it’s more than just staying together, it’s more about how they still love, care and honour each other. I used to watch them holding hands when they walked together, or when Dad worked nearby he would come home from work for lunch together. I didn’t think too much of it at the time, but looking back I can see that this was such a special relationship that provided such a wonderful example to us children. Even now that they have an empty nest, they have invested so much into each other and love being together. I have heard it said that some couples spend so much energy focussing on the children, without a balance on each other too, so that when all the kids leave home they find their own relationship was lost along the way.
Congratulations Mum and Dad, you are both wonderful individually and as a couple. I sent them a card earlier this week to congratulate them on this achievement. Once again my favourite type… easy to make!
